In order to share experiences on producing immersive content we will create guidelines for content creators on how to use the video compression tools for delivering and exhibiting immersive content. This will help to increase the adoption of state-of-the-art IT technologies by the media industry.

Sept 2018 – Decoder and Video Rendering for VR (D3.1)
Standalone application with high performance HEVC decoder and renderer allowing real-time 8Kp120 and 8Kp60 3D, and 16K decoding on a single PC (for 4:2:0, 10-bit video).
Sept 2018 – HEVC Encoder and Immersive Content (D4.1)
Optimizations to the HEVC encoder in order to increase its performance, being able to process on average 4K videos in real time.
A report of the effect on compression efficiency and quality of at least three different projection methods (e.g. equirectangular, cubic, icosahedral), an encoder pre-processing filter library that can convert between them. The software quality tool will implement the most relevant metrics that are being defined for VR video.
Sept 2019 – Immersive Media Player Integration (D3.2)
Complete media player with support for real-time playback of high quality panoramic formats targeting 8Kp120 and 16Kp60 resolutions and frame rates. Reference design for video playback for at least three different display architectures (PC with HMD, multi-display, and multi-projector).
Sept 2019 – Interactive Media Authoring (D5.2)
A report including best practice examples and findings on interactive media authoring for high resolution VR infrastructures
Sept 2019 – Quality Assessment and Content Preparation Guidelines (D5.3)
Guidelines for encoding and decoding immersive content, as well as media production workflows experiences.
Description of the best practice configuration parameters of the encoder and quality assessment results in terms of subjective quality for each content genre.
