Immersify supports artists with advanced technology

Immersify provides infrastructure and tools for VERTIGO STARTS residency program

(January 22, 2018, Maciej Glowiak)

The Immersify Project has been selected for VERTIGO STARTS Artistic Residencies Program. The Program organises collaborations between artists and research and development (R&D) projects in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). VERTIGO is funded under the H2020 European STARTS initiative, innovation at the nexus of Science Technology, and the ARTS. STARTS promotes the arts as catalysts for efficient conversion of science and technology knowledge into products, services, and processes. To achieve this objective, VERTIGO is organizing and funding artist residencies within ICT R&D projects.

Objectives of STARTS residency in Immersify

The essential objective for collaboration between the Immersify project and artists involved in STARTS is to create innovative ways of immersive content production that would drive our research related to compression and display technologies. The key aspect of the technology to be considered is an ultra-high definition (8K and beyond), VR and stereoscopy. Immersify partners are looking for artists who are not afraid of pioneering the challenges of media convergence based on modern technologies. In order to do it, the artist should work on ideation of the innovative VR usage scenarios, combination of immersive audio and video, new VR cinematographic language that involves not only multidimensional video but also audio, new forms of the interactive and immersive content, interconnecting of displays, non-linear interactive storytelling, new experiences of full immersion, as well as the way of creation content which is possible to be displayed on different types of visualisation devices. The effects of the collaboration may be shown on Ars Electronica Festival or Festival de Cannes among other events.

What we offer

The residency will be hosted by visualisation and media laboratories of Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) located in Poznan, Poland. PSNC provides several installations and devices that could be used in the process of collaboration between artists and research groups. There are 3 main installations: 8K 3D display wall, cubic VR CAVE with tracking system and cylindrical VR CAVE composed of 45 UHD tiled displays. As an addition, artists may use 8K cameras, immersive audio installations, motion capture system as well as laser 3D scanners. You can find more details about PSNC infrastructure here: http://immersify.eu/infrastructure-psnc/

The artists’ submission can be done by VERTIGO STARTS platform by March 2, 2018.
