Abstract
This talk highlights recent developments in video codecs for ultra-high-quality media. The talk will present the technical and business experience of Spin Digital, a Berlin-based company that develops high performance video codecs for the next-generation of immersive media. Spin Digital software solutions enable media applications that require the latest image and video processing enhancements including very high resolution (4K, 8K, and 16K), and virtual reality and 360° video.

Short Bio
Dr. Mauricio Alvarez-Mesa is the CEO and co-founder of Spin Digital, a company specialized in video compression for ultra-high-quality media. Mauricio has more than 15 years of experience in the field of video codecs and computer architecture. He has worked as a researcher for several international institutions such as the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona, IBM in Haifa, Fraunhofer HHI in Berlin, and the Technical University of Berlin. He is part of several international research projects combining the media industry and the ICT sector. Mauricio holds a bachelor degree in Electronic Engineering from Universidad de Antioquia, and PhD degree in Computing Engineering from Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
