The translucent St. Stephen’s Cathedral

High resolution interactive tour of the St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna

Austria / UK, March 2020

#360° #stereoscopic #8k

With more than 20 billion laser points the cathedral church of St. Stephen in Vienna was spatially measured. In this unique level of detail they correspond to a data volume of almost 400 gigabytes and form the basis of the translucent St. Stephen’s Cathedral. This innovative approach offers spectators an interactive journey through the translucent sacred building in stereoscopic 8K. The novel insights through the layers of the Cathedral Church were created as a cooperative effort between the Ars Electronica Futurelab, ScanLAB Projects, RIEGL Laser Measurement Systems and the Dombauhütte St. Stephan zu Wien.
