Luxembourg, 14 May 2019 – A Europe’s first demo consisting of a direct broadcast of an 8K signal to a flat screen TV with a built-in satellite receiver will be presented during the SES Industry Days 2019, taking place on May 14th and 15th in Luxembourg.
This demonstration is the result of the partnership between SES, Spin Digital, and Samsung. Spin Digital provides the 8K HEVC encoder to encode the 8K signal at a bit rate of 70 Mbps for broadcast-grade quality, SES the bandwidth to broadcast the signal via satellite, and Samsung the 8K flat screen TV to receive and decode the signal directly.
The collaboration with SES is helping Spin Digital to exploit the HEVC coding technology for the new 8K format. The next step is to enable similar quality and compression for live 8K HEVC.
