Introduction

Ars Electronica subcontracted Nohlab to provide an 8K version of Prima Materia, a stereoscopic piece taking the audience on an audiovisual journey.

Story

A stereoscopic audiovisual journey of the primitive formless base of all matter Prima Materia. Alchemical authors have compared the “Prima Materia” to everything, to male and female, to the hermaphroditic monster, to heaven and earth, to body and spirit, chaos, microcosm, and the confused mass; it contains in itself all colors and potentially all metals; there is nothing more wonderful in the world, for it begets itself, conceives itself, and gives birth to itself.

Procedure

Nohlab delivered four video files (for wall, floor, left eye, right eye). On the basis of the raw material (delivered as single frame sequences) the final compound was made by Ars Electronica, rendering material with audio and credits.
